I saw this, and I just had to.

GenreGothics
GOTHICS! - Deep, dark, mysterious and melodramatic.
You are drawn to write tales of the shadows and
what might lurk there. Could it be Love? Or
Madness? Anne Rice and Brahm Stoker are your
guides.

What Kind of Novel Should I Write?
brought to you by Quizilla

Are we surprised? I sincerely hope not. Certain characters are eyeing me, claiming that perhaps this ought to be a hint to actually write the novel in question. ;)

No, not surprised at all! Excellent.
I should be writing, er, literature, apparently. Which doesn't really narrow things down much!

That actually bugged me--having 'literature' as a category. Considering my definition of Gothic includes Charlotte and Emily Brontë as well as Mary Shelley, and I just have issues with canonising literature.

I got the same thing myself on that quiz. Hmm, and I have never even read Anne Rice!

I read some of her books, years ago. A few were good, and the rest were derivative, and generally mediocre, if not actually bad. Honestly, Anne Rice falls under Horror in my brain, rather than Gothic. But that might just be me.

I got science fiction.

After a few moments of being rather surprised - I admire science hugely but don't know enough about it - I've decided this is way cool.

inquiring mind understands the secret workings
of the villainous murderer and thief. You feel
the need to build a puzzle so complex, and a
villain so unsuspected that you leave the

Dashiell Hammett and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle are
your guides.
