So I just reread a short story I wrote during my last year of high school. I was evidently obsessed with Faust, murder, tormented musicians, and Chopin. Things haven't changed very much at all, have they?

But the bit that made me feel slightly better was that, while the plot was terribly overblown and melodramatic, the writing itself was actually reasonably good. And my dialogue was infinitely better than it had been in the Awful Gothic Novel*.

Anyone else make that discovery every now and then?

It just amuses me how much things change, and yet stay so very much the same. But now, back to our previous showing of The X-Files.

*Written between eighth and tenth grade, now only trotted out when I want to make someone laugh very hard.

I used to have glorious dreams of getting published and becoming famous, so when I was ten years old, I started a novel about bunnies. What's pathetic is I worked on it through middle school and filled about seventy sheets of notebook paper, front and back. I thought I was going to win the Newberry for it. xD

Aww, bunnies! I just wrote awful ghost stories. The last 'happy' story I recall was written in first grade, and it was about a woman who became friends with a unicorn. After that, it was all about ghosts and death.

Hee, my bunnies had their fair share of angst. There was a Sekrit Abandoned Brother and much ensuing family drama.

i found my "me book" that i worked on throughout fifth grade. our teacher gave us all these worksheets to fill out with enticing questions such as "what are your favorite things?" and "what do you hope to improve in this year?" apparently, i used to be bad at math.

i too dreamed of being a famous writer when i was young. i should go dig up my old stories. =)
